Internship Program

March 2, 2024 by Engineering Ventures

Interested in spending a summer at one of our three offices? Learn more here!

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Our staff hosts a cohort of interns every summer at all three of our offices. Most of our candidates are students we connect with at career fairs. You can find a list of the fairs we typically attend during the Fall and Spring semesters below. We often select our summer interns after we attend the Spring fairs (after March).

We pride ourselves on offering a flexible program that suits our preferred candidates experiential learning needs. Each summer we evaluate our staffing, workload and capacity to determine what level of engagement we are equipped to entertain. Whether our internships are full-time or part-time are dependent on these fluctuating factors. We also are open to hosting a multi-discipline intern, giving students a chance to engage with both our civil and structural departments.

EV typically offers internships to juniors and seniors, but would consider underclassmen.

CANDIDATES

The ideal candidate is a motivated student with a special interest in civil or structural engineering. This student should be ready for hands on experience assisting our staff. They should anticipate working in a relaxed and professional team setting and independently as needed. Below are qualities we look for, and responsibilities Interns can expect:

CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERN

  • Conversion of topographic survey information into EV standards.
  • Regular/Daily drafting on projects anticipated (some redline, some design/draft).

  • Regular use and increasing proficiency of Hydrocad.
  • Design, application and construction aspects of main civil utilities (water, sewer, stormwater).
  • Learn Engineering Ventures standards of design and construction detailing.
  • Vermont ANR, New Hampshire NHDES and New York DEC permitting processes and requirements.
  • Regional Town and City permitting processes and requirements.
  • Occasional field work including site visits, measuring, survey, soils review, infiltration testing, etc..
  • Provide construction administration phase functions and some Resident Engineer duties.
  • Anticipate a mix of education to occur while working on projects and self-education on your own time for items necessary to get up to speed on local engineering and permitting.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING INTERN
