Work on the Burlington waterfront north of Penney Lane included realignment of the bike path, extension of Lake Street, a skatepark, new building and boatyard for the Community Sailing Center, and the Moran Frame project nearing completion. To meet the City’s goals and state stormwater requirements, the project also included gravel wetlands and bioswales for stormwater treatment.

Together these improvements have created dynamic public space in a previously underutilized area. EV provided grading, stormwater design, utility coordination, and permit assistance for the overall project and full site design and permit services for the Sailing Center, and Moran Frame project.

Given the long history of uses on the waterfront, and the fire of 1894, there were some significant challenges presented by this location. These included soils contaminated with PAH and arsenic, unconsolidated fill, water lines in unmarked locations, and abandoned infrastructure. All grading and underground work needed to be carefully coordinated with the environmental engineers managing compliance with the Corrective Action Plan (CAP).
