EV assisted with design for a $20M community center including town offices, library, and performing arts spaces. The South Burlington Library and Community Center project was a civil/structural project completed as part of an architectural team for the City of South Burlington.

Design was complicated by the interaction with past, current, and proposed work on adjacent properties. Engineering Ventures designed connecting driveways and pedestrian routes to Market Street, Marcotte Elementary, and Allard Square housing. Also included was reconfiguration of the school bus drop off area and staff parking lot. Stormwater treatment and detention for the main project and school parking expansion used high rate bioretention systems with flow mitigation in large, subsurface storage galleries.

These systems met the current requirements of the state and South Burlington stormwater utility and also looked toward compliance with the 3-AC requirements now in place. The building structure was complicated by an articulated façade and varying roof levels, requiring discontinuous floor diaphragms, heavily loaded braced frames, and transfer beams.
