Civil engineering design and permitting assistance were provided for a new Outdoor Center. The Scope of Work included preparing Site Development Plans to include driveway and parking improvements, grading, drainage /stormwater, water & sewer utility connections (existing services), erosion prevention devices, and Easement area for use by the Town of West Windsor to access their Reservoir and Pumps. Mountain bike trail coordination and permitting was included.
Civil and structural engineering as well as permitting assistance was provided for implementation of Phase 1 of the BAMP including a facilities audit, new facilities for Ski Patrol and Ski School, reconfiguration of the Rental and Repair Shop, and related civil/site, parking and landscape work.
Our civil and structural engineering teams assisted with the Mt. Philo State Park Design plan, including work with the park entry and summit sites.
Civil work included preparing base maps, conducting infiltration testing, reviewing the grading plan, and reviewing the road and parking alignment.
Structural engineering included a foundation plan for composting toilet and retaining walls for access to and from the proposed lower parking lot.
Permits included ANR Wastewater, Construction and Stormwater Operational.
Killington and PICO Mountain Resort required our structural and civil engineering assistance in the design and construction of their new Base Lodge which replaced the original lodge.
They aim to support higher guest retention by providing customers with amenities that better meet their needs, including greater overall capacity. The flexibility, creativity, and high level of collaboration between the design team and owners are what lead to the success of this project.
This multi-phase design process required intricate utility and structure planning on an extremely tight site. The building structure was designed to have the first phase structure support itself laterally for wind and seismic forces without assistance from the second phase structure.
The first phase was also constructed within 15 feet of the original base lodge, which required 20+ foot tall lag and pile shoring. On one side runs a ravine, and on the other side the gondola needed to remain in operation, which required thinking outside the box with our foundation design to prevent disruption or undermining of those existing foundations.
Utilities were designed and installed in and around the existing lodge, with new installations requiring a seamless swap. The extended construction phase also meant more durable weatherization measures were needed to maintain the integrity of the first phase foundation elements.
Parking, pedestrian circulation, ski trails and access to the nearby gondola and umbrella bar were designed. Stormwater design and permitting were provided.
