Floodproofing is becoming more and more integral to our work as our climate-related renovations pivot from remedial to preventative. We understand that as we face more extreme weather conditions it’s our responsibility to fortify our clients’ projects against hazards. This project is an example of dry floodproofing we did for a commercial plaza in West Lebanon, NH.
Because the floor of the existing structure is below the 100-year base flood elevation, our team implemented powerful FRA flood panels to be installed before extreme weather events. These structures shelter storefronts and doors from water damage by locking into the columns surrounding the building’s perimeter.
We also elevated the gas regulators, new electrical transformers, and generators on the building’s exterior above the base flood. Manually operated valves were also added to sewer service lines to prevent sewage from backing up into the building during the base flood. A flood storage area was created to compensate for critical grade adjustments around the building perimeter that resulted in a net fill condition.
