UVM’s 186,000 sf student center houses a four-story atrium, pub/bistro, grocery, bookstore, ballroom, conference and meeting room, offices for the student associations and services, and loading dock, and terraces.
During construction efforts were made to use recycled and locally produced materials whenever possible. The building’s 62,000 slate shingles were made in Fair Haven, Vt., and 65 percent of all materials were manufactured within 500 miles (three times the LEED requirement) and 92 % of all construction waste was re-used of recycled.
This building received LEED Gold Certification and the 2008 ACEC Grand Award for Excellence in Engineering.
