Jessie joined EV in February of 2019. She has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont. While she is a licensed engineering intern (EIT), her most recent position was a Senior Project Representative with an architecture firm located in New York City. It was there that her interest and experience in sustainability and structural design was met with her appreciation for historic restoration, facade rehabilitation, and building envelope standards.
Having grown up both in Vermont and in New York City, she provides a unique perspective of sustainability in urban environments. With her experience as an office engineer and knowledge of new building construction, she is versed in the construction industry – whether that be from the viewpoint as a project engineer, project architect, or construction manager (She’s had experience in all three).
What gives you the most satisfaction in your work?
The challenge of finding new and innovative ways to meet the needs of clients, the requirements of code, and my own standards of quality is what inspires me. I find excitement in thinking outside of the box, and I love how – as engineers – we’re never given the same problem twice. But, my favorite part is when I get to see the physical, tangible result of my hard work when projects undergo construction.
What’s your favorite way to pass time?
Being active – whether that’s inside the gym or outside hiking, skiing, running, biking… anything that gets me moving and lifts my heart rate!
What’s the best advice you’ve received – so far?
If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.
If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
